Set back from the road and approached by a winding private driveway, the Madrona Ridge residence reveals itself gradually, a welcoming and refined retreat surrounded by West Coast greenery and panoramic Island views. Homeowners Ian and Odette envisioned a house that felt timeless rather than trendy, honouring classic forms and materials while supporting a more effortless everyday lifestyle.

Designed for Living and Creating
Function was central to Ian’s design. The home was carefully planned to support the couple’s daily rhythms, while also incorporating a dedicated pottery studio for Odette. Each room serves a purpose, yet the overall layout remains open, generous, and easy to move through. Ample natural light, proportion, and organic materials work together to create interiors that feel calm, tactile, and lived-in from the start.
A Thoughtful Arrival
The home’s exterior sets the stage for an experience that balances traditional architecture with a modern sensibility. Individual cedar shakes, pronounced cedar trim, and natural pine soffits give the home depth and texture. A traditional vestibule creates an intentional transition from outdoors to in, where each element feels considered and harmonious.
A Collection of Artful Details
Awarded Gold for Best Traditional Bathroom, Silver for Best Custom Millwork, Silver for Best SFD over $1M, and Silver for Best Traditional Kitchen under 250 SQ FT at the 2020 Care Awards, this project is a testament to getting every detail just right. From the extensive millwork and cabinetry—designed in detail by Ian and built by Kenwood Design—to the concrete elements woven throughout the home, every surface reflects a high level of care and craftsmanship.

This was a deeply collaborative project from start to finish. Working closely with Ian’s design vision, we brought a high level of craftsmanship to every detail, from securing the ledge behind the range and executing the cantilevered garage overhang to delivering the precision required for the custom cabinetry and concrete work. The result is a home that reflects our commitment to clear communication, thoughtful problem-solving, and building spaces that function beautifully while standing the test of time.
